GUIDE TO EXTENDING THE DURATION OF EXPIRING RESIDENT PERMITS

24. April 2020. 13:50

1.a         If you are a student in your final semester  and wish to take part in the graduation ceremony in September 2020, however your residence permit expires at the end of the academic year of 2019/20, please be informed about the followings:

According to the government decree 85/2020, in  case of ’state of emergency’ residence permits are  automatically extended with  45  days  following  the end of the state of emergency. So, if the state of emergency is withdrawn   45 or less than 45 days before the graduation ceremony  you have nothing to do.

However, if the state of emergency is withdrawn more than 45 days before the graduation ceremony, you have to apply for the extension of your residence permit as soon as possible after the withdrawal. In this case the „normal process” should be followed.

The difference is that you have to  apply for the extension „for other purpose” (not for study purposes) , and you have to submit a certificate issued by the University (ask for it from IRO in e-mail ) confirming the date of the ceremony. Please note, that your passport has to be valid at least 3 months after the requested extension period. For further details please check the webpage of the Immigration Office.

1.b.       Students, who have to apply for the extension of their residence permit (because the document expires in the forthcoming weeks, for any reason), have to visit ENTER HUNGARY  at the following link: https://enterhungary.gov.hu/eh/ and shall follow the steps there.

You have to attach to your online application   a document confirming your students status (it is issued by the Dean’s Office) and  a document confirming your address. In case you are a self-financing student,  you also have to attach your bank  statement (last 3 months) as well as  documents  confirming  that you have  sufficient funds to purchase a ticket to your home country  and that you have comprehensive healthcare insurance or sufficient financial resources for health care services.
